As the peak body for resource recovery, recycling and remanufacturing in Australia, ACOR is encouraged to see such decisive and quick policy action in pursuit of a circular economy by 2030.
ACOR statement on soft plastic recycling
Australia’s largest soft plastics recycling program, and ACOR member REDcycle, has announced they are pausing their program, effective immediately, due to an inability in the short term to balance the supply and demand aspects of the operation. This is the result of a confluence of pandemic and post-pandemic circumstances, including exponential growth in supply of post-consumer soft plastics, disruption to recycling infrastructure and a downturn in market demand for the recycled products the program produces.

Your kerbside recycling might be contaminated: AI-backed Recycle Mate app helps you take out the trash
Now more than ever Australians have a desire to send less to landfill and recycle right, but many of us are still contaminating our kerbside recycling systems, often due to recycling confusion.
Different recycling rules and streams from council to council and the evolution of new products and packaging means recycling correctly every time can often be difficult, even for the most seasoned recycler. Knowing the best way to recycle and whether to recycle certain items can leave many Australians stumped.
The Recycle Mate app and supporting education campaign is helping to remove the recycling guesswork, no matter where you are in Australia. The free Recycle Mate app has been designed with cutting-edge artificial intelligence technology and Australia’s most comprehensive recycling database – right at your fingertips.
Keep calm and carry on sorting: council's kerbside conduct not representative of recycling across Australia
The Australian Council of Recycling (ACOR) is deeply concerned by today’s reports that a council in NSW has been mixing some households’ recycling and rubbish for over a decade.
As the peak body for resource recovery, recycling and remanufacturing in Australia, ACOR and its members work hard to educate and empower the Australian community to ‘recycle right’ and divert these recoverable resources from landfill.
“Thankfully, it is not a common practice at all to mix recycling with general waste at collection. These kinds of practices undermine our community's confidence in recycling and send all the wrong messages to householders trying to do the right thing,” said ACOR CEO Suzanne Toumbourou.

Australian Council of Recycling urges Tasmania not to let politics get in the way of jobs, growth and a great recycling future
The Australian Council of Recycling (ACOR) has today raised concerns about the potential delay of vitally important legislation in the Tasmanian Parliament which will support recycling, waste reduction and a circular economy.
The Tasmanian Labor Party’s call for a further inquiry into what has already been a long process to secure the Waste and Resource Recovery Bill 2021 is unnecessary and damaging to Tasmania’s circular economy future. As it stands, Tasmania remains the only State without a legislated waste levy, severely limiting its recycling potential and the diversion of waste from landfill.
